Let’s talk about margin

I often think about the margin we do—or often don’t—have in our lives. We’re frequently stretched thin, using every square inch and every spare moment to accomplish, produce, and succeed.

There’s not much margin in our lives.

I want to change that.

It starts with healing our relationship with time. We have such complicated and unhealthy narratives around busyness and rest, how we schedule our time and manage our calendar, earning or deserving a break. All of it is in major need of healing. I—we!—need some extra breathing room for rest, reflection, and recentering. We need help unlearning and relearning new rhythms. We need help remembering to bring that which we’ve pushed to the sides into focus.

The same is true on a systemic level, too. Our contemplative practices are not solely for ourselves; they’re for our community. Our time with the Divine, hopefully, is shaping the way we interact with the world: how we spend our money, how we vote, how we advocate, how we relate to our neighbors.

Retreat Offerings

For whom are the Margin Retreats?

Anyone who is in need of some soulful margin. Anyone interested in getting away, centering down, and listening. Anyone in need of some intentional quiet. Anyone seeking help in cultivating closeness with the Holy. Anyone looking for others who can be with them on the spiritual journey.

What will we do?

We’ll engage in a variety of spiritual practices: silence, solitude, conversation, and delight. Some practices may be very familiar to you and others may be new. There will be time to rest, to pray, to share stories, and to encourage one another.

What is the hope for these retreats?

The hope for engaging in a retreat is to do the work of tending to our inner landscape within community. Our hope is that no matter what, we’ll encounter God together. We don’t have to choose between our schedules and our souls.

How do we get started?

Do you have a group that would benefit from a retreat? This group could be a Sunday school class or small group, something open to the faith community you belong to, a group of clergy/pastors, your fellow co-workers, or simply a group of friends. I’m happy to travel to you. The location and timeframe are all flexible. Below are examples of retreat schedules that can be customized to fit your group’s needs.
